Separately, Singapore reduced the time for isolation for children younger than 12 years old and for people who have tested positive for Covid to just 7 days.

According to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, studies have shown that the virus load for omicron infection is significantly lower than for delta and lasts for an even shorter time.

Unvaccinated children 12 years and over will need to be isolated for 14 days.

Modification of border measures

Singapore stated that it will limit who is allowed to enter its country by maintaining its quarantine-free, vaccine-free travel lane. Sales of tickets for bus or flight will not exceed 50% of their quota.

If they plan to move from their home, however, anyone who arrives in the country after Jan. 24, will only need to take unsupervised rapid Covid testing for seven days. Not all results must be submitted.

Currently, after arriving in Singapore, travelers must self-test and submit test results on four days and go to a testing center for supervised testing on two days.

If they can provide evidence, travellers who have been fully vaccinated will not be subject to any quarantine or testing.

The health ministry released a statement saying that fully-vaccinated people who have recently been vaccinated against COVID-19 infected and vaccinated are at a low risk of becoming reinfected. The release said that such travelers might also prove positive, without being at risk of infection. They are likely to have a low incidence of viral infections.

The release stated that those who have not been fully vaccinated, but are recovering from a recent illness, will not be required to undergo a pre-departure testing but would still need to submit to additional measures.

In Singapore, covid cases have been on the rise in recent weeks. The health ministry reported a 2.17 weekly growth rate in infection rates Thursday.

The last 28 days have seen 99.3% of cases with mild symptoms or none. 1472 cases of infection were reported on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Health Ministry confirmed that 1,001 Omicron cases had been identified. Of these 952 were from local sources and 49 were imported.

Since the outbreak, 297 549 Covid deaths have been reported by the city-state.
