WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The Arizona Democratic Party’s executive committee has officially censured the U.S. The state party censured Senator Kyrsten Silena for voting against changes in the rules of the Chamber to pass the Voting Rights legislation.

Sinema was among two Democratic senators that voted against the Senate’s reduction of the 60-vote threshold down to 50 votes so the Senate could adopt a voting rights bill with bipartisan support.

While the censure of Sinema was mostly symbolic, it also highlights criticisms that Sinema has received from members of her party. In fact, polling shows that Sinema now faces a greater backlash by Democratic voters.

Raquel Teran was the chairperson of the state party and stated that in a Saturday statement, they supported Sinema’s votes to adopt legislation to provide additional coronavirus treatment and to enhance the nation’s infrastructure.

Teran stated, “But, we’re also here to advocate on behalf of our constituents. The ramifications for failing to pass federal legislation to protect their vote rights are too vast and far-reaching.”

Teran said that while we do not take pleasure in the announcement, Senator Sinema has been officially censured by the ADP Executive Board for her failures to protect the democracy’s health.

The failure to pass the legislation was a major blow to President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda and for voting rights groups, which had been fighting a slate of laws passed in Republican-controlled states that election experts have said were designed to suppress voting, especially among Black, Hispanic and poor voters.

Voting rights activists and experts agree that states passed this legislation to support the false claims of former President Donald Trump, claiming rampant fraud marred the 2020 election.

Arizona’s state Senate Republicans hired Cyber Ninjas to do an so-called audit of the 2020 election. Officials from the elections discredited the investigation. Arizona’s Secretary-of-State issued a report declaring that the election was accurate and secure, while calling the review secretive and inefficient.

Media reports claim that the judge had ordered that the company pay $50,000.0 per day in damages.

Sinema sponsored the Senate bill for election overhaul, however she repeatedly said that she was against changing filibuster rules.

Sinema’s Office reacted to the criticism in a statement.

Kyrsten, who served three terms as U.S. House Speaker and is now Senate President, has promised Arizonans that she will be an independent voice representing the state, not any political party. A spokesperson stated that she has delivered on behalf of Arizonans, and was always open about her position.
