PORT-AUPRINCE (Reuters – A Haitian judge who was overseeing an investigation into President Jovenel’s July assassination said that he has withdrawn from the case. This further escalated the chaos in the ongoing investigation of this brazen crime.

Garry Orelien was named the investigation judge in this case in August. He stated that his December mandate was up and that he had rejected his request to extend it.

According to Reuters, Orelien stated that he had ended the investigation “around the facts regarding the assassination President of Republic Jovenel Moise”, according to a copy. Orelien said that he had written the letter in telephone interviews and refused to comment further.

None of the suspects detained by Haitian authorities were charged in his probe. Orelien blamed this week’s lack of progress for the insufficient support received by other Haitian institutions.

Moise was shot and killed by gunmen on July 7. In August, Haitian police reported that an unknown Haitian-American doctor had hired former Colombian soldiers as a way to murder the president.

There was no clear path for the Haitian investigation. The United States is playing a greater role in the investigation of the crime.

Bernard Saint-Vil (head of the Port-au-Prince Tribunal) who gave Orelien the task, said Tuesday in an interview to a local radio station, that Orelien had been absent from the job due to not completing his investigation within the deadline.

Orelien initially insist that he will remain with the case.

Saint-Vil declined to comment.

Haiti’s fragile political and security status was further weakened by Moise’s murder, which encouraged gangs and spurred them to increase territory and kidnappings. This included the abduction for two months of missionaries from Canada and America.
