BERLIN/ROME – Germany’s largest carrier Lufthansa wants to acquire a 40% interest in state-owned Alitalia’s successor ITA Airways. Two people with knowledge of the talks said that this was after a newspaper reported that a deal may be made next week.
Talks about a tieup between Germany’s Lufthansa, which is partly owned by the state, and ITA Airways continue with all possible outcomes, according to one source. Another source stated that they were not able to disclose the stake price.
Second source stated that Lufthansa is in negotiations with ITA for a 40% share sale. But it might take longer than a few more days before a final deal can be reached.
Lufthansa declined to comment but repeated an earlier statement that it was open to the idea of a partnership.
