U.S. Capitol riot probe to report any phony elector evidence to Justice Dept-chairman -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Federal prosecutors will have access to any evidence that the U.S. House investigates the Capitol attack. The chairman of the Committee said Sunday that the House would share information with the federal prosecutors regarding potential crimes aimed towards pushing phony Republican electoral candidates in the states won by Democratic president Joe Biden.
Representative Bernie Thompson said that the House of Representatives Select Committee will be looking for evidence on Jan. 6, suggesting that Republican officials from certain states tried to nominate their own electors instead of those elected by 2020 voters.
Republicans publicly pressured Mike Pence, then Vice President of the United States, to withdraw official electoral slates in order to permit Republican state legislators to propose an alternative group to support then-President Donald Trump. Pence refused to accept that request.
Thompson stated that if we can identify the individuals responsible, the Justice Department will be referred to him. Thompson spoke on CBS’ Face the Nation. We are worried that some documents were filed claiming they were responsible for conducting or certifying the elections. They’re not. In most cases, falsifying documents can be considered a criminal offense.
Thompson answered a question about who organized the attempt to prevent Trump from declaring his loss.
On Jan. 6, 2021 thousands of Trump supporters stormed into the Capitol after Trump repeated his lies to another rally nearby, claiming that his defeat was due to widespread fraud.
CNN last week reported that Rudy Giuliani (his lawyer) oversaw Trump’s efforts to elect illegitimate voters from seven former states.
Last week, the Jan. 6 panel subpoenaed Giuliani and two other Trump lawyers.
Thompson said that the panel was also concerned by a Trump-drafted executive order. This order, according to Politico, would have asked the U.S. military for election equipment seizure, but the order never was issued.
Thompson stated to CBS that the draft alone is enough reason for people to believe it was being considered. It’s not a secret that you could use the military to take over voting machines. But the public must know. That’s something we have never seen before.”
Although the Justice Department can be referred by the committee for possible offenses, it’s up to them to determine whether they should charge someone.
Thompson stated that the panel has already spoken to Trump’s former Attorney General, Bill Barr, and people from U.S. Department of Defense.
