(Reuters] – Georgia’s largest county prosecutor, who is investigating former U.S. president Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse 2020 elections results, will now be allowed to sit a special grand jury starting in spring.
Fani Willis, Fulton County District attorney requested last week a special grand jury with subpoena powers to assist her investigation of the Republican leader’s attempts to influence 2020 state election results.
According to court documents, Fulton County Superior Court judges granted the request Monday.
After being recorded calling Brad Raffensperger, a Georgia secretary of state, to press him for overturning the state’s unfounded voter fraud claims, Willis is now the subject of the largest investigation in Trump’s Georgia.
Willis specifically stated that Raffensperger was an essential witness, which she described as an “essential witnesses”. He had previously indicated that he wouldn’t take part in interviews unless presented with subpoenas.
