Two central banks released public reports last week that could have an important impact on crypto ecosystems in their countries. The U.S. Federal Reserve published a discussion paper entitled “Money and Payments: The U.S. Dollar in the Age of Digital Transformation,” which summarizes years of the Fed’s research on CBDCs. The Central Bank of Russia published a report proposing a ban on cryptocurrency mining and operations in Russia. The documents serve as an invitation to public discussion. However, they may not trigger the same kinds of debates that other papers.
