Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting – Buffett’s ‘Woodstock for Capitalists’

Berkshire HathawayAfter two years of virtual meetings due to Covid-19, Tuesday’s annual shareholder meeting will take place in person.

This year’s “Woodstock for Capitalists” event, which has attracted thousands over the years, will again be broadcast live via webcast. The event offers a rare chance for investors to hear from the legendary investor Warren Buffett, who usually participates in a marathon Q&A session for a few hours.

The meeting was held last year without any attendees from Los Angeles. Charlie Munger, 98, is the Berkshire Vice Chairman. This marked the first time the event had been held in Omaha.

In 2020 during the height of the pandemic, Buffett, now 91, led the annual meeting in an empty arena in Omaha, Nebraska in the absence of his usual sidekick Munger.

Ajit Jain (Vice Chair of Noninsurance Operations) and Greg Abel (Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations), will be answering questions for Berkshire this year. Abel, vice chairman of noninsurance operations, has been a top contender as Buffett’s eventual successor. 

The company announced that Berkshire will release its fourth quarter earnings and the 2021 annual report on February 26th.

Last quarter, Berkshire saw another double-digit increaseThe continuous rebound in the railroad, utilities and energy business from the pandemic led to an increase in operating profits. Buffett and other investors continued to watch the business from the sidelines, causing its cash pile to reach a record.
