Spotify is reportedly taking down Neil Young’s music on Joe Rogan podcast objections

Young wrote an open letter to his record label and management earlier in the week. He was critical of Spotify’s misinformation about coronavirus vaccines by Rogan.

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines — potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” Young’s letter reportedly said, according to Rolling Stone. They can choose Rogan from Young. But not both.

It letter has since been deletedHowever, the Wall Street Journal reported that Young had been in talks with Warner Records as well as Spotify. According to the Wall Street Journal, the request for the removal of the music was made Wednesday. It is expected that it may take several hours before it takes effect. Young’s music is still accessible on the site as of 4:00 EST. His artist page stated that he had over 6 million monthly users.

Representatives for Spotify and Warner Records did not immediately reply to inquiries for comment.

This is the latest protest against Rogan who hosts “The Joe Rogan Experience”, one of Spotify’s most popular podcasts. Spotify purchased exclusive streaming rights for the show in 2020, a deal that was reportedly valued at more than $100 millions.

Rogan, who has millions of listeners worldwide, used the platform to repeatedly discuss the Covid-19 pandemic. He once said that only young adults need the vaccine. That sparked Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, to call out Rogan.

Young isn’t also the first person to request that the platform update its policies regarding podcasters.

In the beginning of this month, 270 physicians and other health professionals were interviewed. wrote an open letter to the streaming giant asking it to take action against Rogan’s podcast, accusing the company of broadcasting misinformation.

According to the letter, Spotify allows the spread of false and socially damaging assertions. This allows Spotify’s hosted media platform to undermine public trust and science research as well as cast doubt on the validity of medical professional data-driven guidance.”
