(Reuters) – Tesla (NASDAQ) Inc announced Wednesday that it will not begin production on its long-awaited Cybertruck. It is expected to be in place by 2023. This announcement comes at a moment when both legacy and newer automakers are focusing more on the lucrative market.

This announcement confirms a Reuters Report from earlier in the month. It comes after electric-vehicle manufacturer reported record quarterly revenues and increased 2022 deliveries by more than half despite difficulties with supply chains.

Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of Elon Musk who presented the futuristic vehicle to the world in 2019, has already delayed its production by late 2021 and late 2022. Recent changes to the production schedule were not made to the website for the pickup.

We will not introduce new vehicles models this year. Musk stated that it would be absurd because parts will still be constrained.

We will however do a lot more engineering, tooling, and other stuff to make those vehicles. Cybertruck, Semi Roadster, Optimus, and Roadster. And we could have them in production next year. He said that this was most likely.

Tesla missed the lucrative pickup truck market, currently dominated fuel-guzzling cars from the legacy automakers.

Musk posted on Tuesday, ahead of earnings, that he had been driving his latest Cybertruck prototype through Austin’s new Gigafactory, Texas. He added “It is awesome.”

Rivian Automotive and Ford Motor (NYSE.) Co have been able to launch electric pickups faster than Tesla. Rivian is now shipping its R1T pickup truck and Ford plans to begin delivery of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup pickup this spring.

General Motors’ (NYSE:) Silverado electric pickup was unveiled in the spring. Production will start in 2023.

According to Reuters, Tesla has been modifying features and functions to create a more compelling product.
