SoftBank COO Marcelo Claure is leaving the company, sources say

SoftBankPeople familiar with the situation say that Marcelo Claure will be stepping down as Chief Operating Officer at the Japanese technology conglomerate.

According to people familiar with the matter, Claure had been discussing leaving SoftBank for some time. They asked to remain anonymous as the discussions are confidential. One person said Claure might want to start his own investment company.

Claure joined SoftBank after selling his majority share of Brightstar, a wireless company, for $1.26 million. He later became CEO of the Softbank-majority owned SprintIt successfully merged with with T-Mobile in April 2020.

Claure was resigned as Sprint CEO in 2018. He took up additional positions at SoftBank Group International, such as COO at SoftBank Group International and CEO of SoftBank Group International. SoftBank Group chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son chose him to revamp WeWorkIn October 2019, after Son helped push out WeWork founder Adam Neumann from runningThe company.

The New York Times reported Claure wanted $2 billionSoftBank will pay WeWork compensation which went public via special purpose acquisition vehicle in OctoberT-Mobile and Sprint were successfully joined together. Bloomberg reported earlier todayClaure has decided to resign due to disagreements regarding compensation with Son.
