Dozens of U.S. states say Apple stifles competition, back ‘Fortnite’ maker -Breaking

OAKLAND, Calif. (Reuters] – Apple Inc (NASDAQ) is stifling innovation through its mobile app shop, 34 U.S. state attorneys general and the District of Columbia claimed on Thursday. They appealed against a ruling allowing the iPhone maker to keep some of its restrictive practices.

These comments were made to an appeals court in the context of a suit over app store fees, payment tools and Epic Games’ “Fortnite” videogame maker.

In a ruling against Epic by a U.S. District Court judge, Oakland, California, last year found that Apple’s 15%-30% in-app payments system commissions to app makers did not contravene antitrust laws.

Epic appealed the decision in the U.S. 9th. Circuit Court of Appeals. Professors and activist groups, as well as the States, participated in Thursday’s hearings through court filings. These documents provided legal arguments for support. Apple will respond in March.
