REUTERS/Tom Brenner(Reuters) – Joni Mitchell, a Canadian singer and songwriter has said that Spotify will not play her songs. This follows Neil Young’s protest against the streaming site misinforming about COVID-19 vaccines.
Mitchell took action in response to Wednesday’s Spotify and Young announcement that they would take down his music. This was following objections from the singer-songwriter that his songs were being played on the same platform that hosts a Joe Rogan podcast.
Mitchell released a statement on her website, https:// “I have decided to remove all of my music Spotify,” Mitchell declared. “Irresponsible persons are spreading lies that cost people their lives. This issue is a matter of solidarity between Neil Young, the medical and scientific communities around the world and me.
Young had earlier posted on his website a letter addressed to his manager. Young demanded that Spotify not carry his music. Young wrote: “They can either have Rogan, or Young.” They can’t have both. Later, the letter was deleted from this site.
Rogan hosts the most-listened podcast on Spotify.
Rogan started his comedy career in stand-up and has been controversial for his opinions on vaccines, the government mandates, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Rogan has raised questions about the necessity of these vaccines and claimed that he had used ivermectin (an antiparasite drug with no benefit over COVID-19), on his show.
