REUTERS/Paulo WhitakerWASHINGTON (Reuters) – Boeing Co (NYSE:) Co appears set to sign a provisional agreement with Qatar Airways for a new freighter-version of its 777X passenger aircraft on Monday. This will be in conjunction with a Washington ceremony that coincides the visit of the ruling emir from Gulf states, officials claimed.
Reuters reports that last week, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer was engaged in negotiations with Gulf carriers for 34 planned twin-engined freighters. This deal is provisionally estimated at $14 billion.
Qatar Airways publicly stated that they are interested in purchasing up to 50 planes. The larger number is expected to contain additional options, which could be used to make further purchases.
According to officials, the agreement could also be subject to the formal launch the freighter project at the White House at 12:30 p.m. local (1630 GMT).
