BoeingQatar Airways received a large order on Monday from the airline in a dispute with Airbus.

Boeing shares rose more than 4% on the orders. They rose by more that 4% in afternoon trade.

According to Boeing, the order was worth $34 Billion at list price. However, airlines often receive discounts for large orders.

Qatar placed an order for 34 aircrafts of the 777X. This twin-engined, giant plane is powered by General ElectricThere are 16 other options. Boeing projects that the passenger-777X will be in service by 2023. That’s three years late than planned.

Air cargo was a bright spot during the pandemic. International travel was severely restricted by travel bans and Covid cases, resulting in cargo customers being denied space on passenger aircrafts. Combine this with several port snarls and air freight demand has exploded over the past one year.

Boeing reported last week that cargo traffic increased by 7% compared to pre-pandemic levels, which drove record freighter aircraft demand.

Last year, Rival Airbus stated that it would launch a freighter version its A350 widebody aircraft.

Airbus had announced two weeks earlier that its deal with Qatar Airways was over for 50 A321neo jets. The Max agreement is less than two months after Airbus ended its contract. Airbus has been in dispute with Qatar Airways for several months about cracked paint on A350 planes.
