NEW YORK (Reuters] – Cyrus Vance Jr. was a Manhattan district attorney who over 12 years conducted a criminal probe into Donald Trump’s business and elevated sex crime cases. He is now a partner at Baker McKenzie.

Vance, who is 67 years old, has been named the global chair of cybersecurity. He joins the firm’s North American government enforcement and litigation practice, as well as its global compliance practice.

Vance stated in an interview that cybercrime was a major problem in the business world. The community will be strengthened and protected if we all work together to combat cybercrime.

Vance, a Democrat, was appointed district attorney as Robert Morgenthau’s handpicked successor in 2010. The office now has 600 attorneys and is one of the most influential in law enforcement in the United States.

Vance stopped prosecuting low-level crime crimes and started antiquities trafficking and cybercrime units. He also used hundreds of millions of dollars that large banks had forfeited to strengthen law enforcement and make the streets safer.

Vance experienced a setback when he dropped charges that Dominique Strauss-Kahn (ex-chief International Monetary Fund) had sexually assaulted hotel housekeeper after his credibility was challenged.

He was able to successfully prosecute Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood film producer in 2020. His convictions for sexual assault and the rape led to a 23 year sentence.

Vance had also great success in investigating whether Trump’s Trump Organization fraudulentlymanipulated real property values to lower taxes and loan payments.

Eight years worth of tax returns from the Republican President were obtained by him. He also defeated two appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump was charged with tax fraud last July against his company and longtime chief financial officers.

Alvin Bragg (Vance’s son and also a Democrat) now manages this probe.

Vance stated that he had not spoken to Bragg but wanted to make sure that his successor, and all of the offices in general, were “everything needed.”

His statement said that “essential communications” was initiated in January by Baker McKenzie. Baker McKenzie has an annual revenue of about $3.1 million.

Scott Brandman, the managing partner in New York’s office, said that “Adding Cy as a prosecutor is an enormous addition.”
