Former Miss USA dies at 30 after apparently jumping from building

(Reuters) – Miss USA Cheslie Krast was a former entertainment correspondent on the TV show Extra. She died from an apparent fall from an apartment in Manhattan, New York Police reported to the Washington Post. Her age was 30.

Kryst was reported to have died Sunday by the television show.

“In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,” Kryst’s family said in a statement. Her beauty and strength inspired many people around the globe.

Kryst graduated from Wake Forest University, North Carolina with a MBA and a legal degree. Kryst worked in legal aid for prisoners who had been sentenced to unjust terms before she entered Miss USA.

According to the Post, she was part of a group that included five Black women, who were the winners of the five largest global beauty pageants.

Kryst was crowned the winner of the contest with her naturally flowing curls.

“So, I was a little bit worried and anxious about doing it, but I thought, ‘I want to do it as the most real and authentic me,’ and that’s really what my hair represents,” she said in an interview with Refinery29.com.

After she won, Kryst began working as a correspondent for the entertainment show “Extra.”
