TOKYO, Reuters – Japan’s confidence in its consumers fell for the second consecutive month in January, according to the government. This was due to the Omicron coronavirus variant’s rapid spread, which dampened the mood of shoppers.

The Cabinet Office Survey showed that the sentiment index for general household, which considers views on incomes and job prospects, fell to 36.7 from 39.1 in December.

According to the government, it had downgraded its sentiment index assessment because they believed that it was stagnating.
