NFT Launches Charity Auction to Aid Vulnerable Afghans

Mars Panda, an all-in-one aggregation blockchain platform, has launched a charity NFT (Non-fungible tokens) auction in support of UNHCR’s humanitarian efforts for vulnerable displaced Afghans.

The Mars Panda NFT charity auction in support of UNHCR (https://unhcr.marspanda.world) will take place from January 31, 2022 to March 4, 2022 and feature over 30 NFTs that world-renowned authors, digital and fine arts artists, NFT influencers, and professional footballers have pledged to the auction. The UNHCR will receive all proceeds of the charity auction (less administrative and operational expenses) in aid of the Afghanistan crisis-affected families.

NFTs have the ideal ingredients to be a powerful force for good, thanks to their constant wealth and high interest. NFTs enable everyone to transform their creativity into meaningful actions that address social and humanitarian problems.
said Kevin Pang, CEO, Mars Panda World.

The VIP contributors include world-renowned authors, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassadors Khaled Haosseini, Neil Gaiman and illustrator Dan Williams. Also, the UNHCR Patron Phra Madhivajirodom and Thai Venerable are among them.

Neil Gaiman has donated a UNHCR produced film of his poem What You Need To Be Warm which includes a never-previously-published message from Neil on the writing of the poem and its development into a film. The Sandman autographed by Neil Gaiman, with a personal message to them, will be awarded to the winners of this NFT.

Dan Williams generously donated 17 original watercolour drawings and ink from Sea Prayer (a book written by Khaled Hasseini, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Suns). Sea Prayer will be signed by Khaled to the winning bidders.

The Venerable Phra Medhivajirodom painted an original one-stroke painting for the charity auction. For the new year, the Venerable also blessed the artwork.

For one week, the VIP NFTs will only be available for auction. This is between January 31st and February 6th, 2022. NFTs donated by Valencia F.C. From February 7th, 2022 through March 4th 2022, the auction will include NFTs from Valencia F.C.

Recent months have seen a dramatic increase in the Afghan humanitarian crisis, which has led to significant displacement of civilians. 24.4 million people – 55% of the population – are in need of humanitarian assistance in 2022, a staggering 30% increase from last year.

The harsh winter conditions have also caused road closures across many provinces and disrupted flights from Kabul Airport to other destinations, such as those transporting emergency supplies and assistance.

Despite this, UNHCR’s emergency response in Afghanistan continues. UNHCR has increased winter support for the most seriously displaced families and provided cash aid. UNHCR provided assistance to 1.1 Million displaced or vulnerable persons and 3,000,000 people better accessing infrastructure and services.

UNHCR and partners’ ability to further ramp up emergency preparedness and response interventions is greatly dependent on the timely availability of resources.

The non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are digital collectibles. They can be represented as code by a digital ledger, called a Blockchain. NFTs are able to be sold and bought like any physical item. However, the blockchain retains an irreplaceable record of each NFT’s ownership and transaction history. NFTs experienced a meteoric rise last year, with the most expensive one sold for nearly USD$70 million at the Christie’s auction house.

Mars Panda is an innovative platform. It uses know-your customer (KYC), to authenticate and verify every client that opens an account. This has allowed it to be chosen as the NFT platform to power Singapore’s inaugural NFT charity auction, Blockchain for Good by Blockchain Association of Singapore, which raised more than SGD$400,000 in September 2021 for the National Trade Union Council U-Care Fund and subsequently also supported local Singapore newspaper, The Straits Times, with its first-ever NFT auction, where over SGD$21,000 was raised for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
