Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The additional 0.49% was added at Sydney’s close.

BHP Billiton Ltd. (ASX) was the worst performer of the session, falling 3.06% or 1.420 point to trade at 44.930 by the end. Brambles Ltd (ASX) fell 2.48%, or 0.240 points, to finish at 9.430. Rio Tinto Ltd was also down 2.38% (or 2.660 points) to 108.900.

On the Sydney Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered those in decline by 976 to 482, and 347 respectively.

Brambles Ltd. (ASX) shares fell 52 weeks ago to their lowest point.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 7.05% to 17.385.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was 0.45% higher or $8.00 more than $1803.00 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil delivery for March dropped 0.05%, or 0.04, to $88.11 per barrel. The April Brent oil contract, however, fell 0.08 or 0.07, to trade at $89.19 per barrel.

The Australian Dollar/USD exchange rate was 0.15 percent higher at 0.7074. However, the Japanese yen (AUD/JPY) rose 0.06% from 81.36 to 81.36.

At 96.495, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.04%.
