Biden tells emir he will make Qatar major non-NATO ally -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Monday, President Joe Biden stated to Qatar’s emir Tamim bin Hamad, al-Thani on Monday, that he will designate Qatar soon as a major non NATO ally. It would give Qatar special status, granting it a crucial friend in a troubled region.
Biden stated that he would notify Congress of his intention to inform them soon about the US designation. This is allowed by the United States in order to close non-NATO allies who have strategic working relations with the U.S military.
“Qatar is a good friend and reliable and capable partner. And I’m notifying Congress that I will designate Qatar as a major non-NATO ally to reflect the importance of our relationship. I think it’s long overdue,” Biden told reporters with the emir sitting at his side.
Qatar is the biggest supplier of liquefied worldwide and might divert supply to Europe in case the Ukraine conflict interrupts Russian gas delivery to Europe.
Biden’s Oval Office agenda also covered Iran nuclear talks, and Afghanistan’s relations. Washington’s interests now lie with the tiny Gulf country.
According to a reporter, Tamim met with Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Secretary. They discussed arms sales and other military matters with Lloyd Austin.
Biden indicated that Biden and the emir have a lot of things to do on Monday, which includes strengthening economic and investment cooperation.
He spoke highly of a deal Qatar Airways Group with Boeing (NYSE 🙂 which he claimed will lead to “tens of thousand of high-paying jobs.”
Boeing Co Qatar Airways placed an order for a freighter version of the 777X passenger plane and received a provisional purchase order for 737 MAX Jets. The ceremony took place in Washington on Monday.
Biden stated that the United Arab Emirates had defeated the ballistic missile attack by the Houthis in Yemen on Sunday. He stated that the UAE has been in contact daily to deal with these threats.
According to him, he directed Austin at the Pentagon to make every effort to convey the United States’ support for Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the entire Gulf region.
