Fire at fertilizer plant in North Carolina may cause explosion, area evacuated -Breaking

(Reuters] – Officials said Tuesday that a fire at a Winston-Salem fertilizer plant has forced the evacuation of approximately 6,500 people due to the possible occurrence of an explosion.

Local media reports that the fire began Monday night at North Cherry Street’s Weaver Fertilizer Plant. It is possible for an ammonium nitrate explosion.

Please evacuate all the area within a mile of 4440 North Cherry Street. Officials from the city said that they would be leaving your house for as long as 48 hours.

According to local media reports, no injuries were reported.
