U.S. engaged in ‘robust’ talks with Kenya, more to say in coming weeks

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The U.S. government engages in strong talks with Kenya to improve its trade investments on the African continent.

Bianchi said at a trade event that USTR would be having more to say about Kenyan affairs in the next weeks but didn’t give details.

“We’ve been engaging in strong engagement with Kenya. “We’re looking at ways to expand our trade and investment relationships there.” she stated. We’ll be speaking more on Kenya over the next few weeks but want to maintain a deep engagement.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai met virtually in December with Kenya’s trade minister, Betty Maina, and underscored the Biden administration’s commitment to deepening the bilateral relationship.

In July, the Biden administration announced a new initiative to increase business relations between U.S. businesses and Africa. It focuses on clean energy and infrastructure for transportation on Africa.

While the prior administration attempted to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement with Nairobi, these plans are now on hold while USTR reviews its policy.
