(Reuters). New York City Police Officer Wilbert Marra will be remembered for his affection for a job he loved since he could remember, his calm personality and his heroism at a St. Patrick’s Cathedral Funeral on Wednesday. It was just two weeks following his death responding to a phone call.
Mora (27 years old) was killed with Jason Rivera (22 year-old). They were responding to a Jan. 21, Harlem disturbance. A woman claimed that she was fighting with one her sons. Rivera and Rivera also shot Rivera. Rivera, 22 years old, also lost his life from injuries. Rivera’s funeral took place last week.
The iconic Manhattan cathedral was packed with hundreds of mourners, as well as New York police officers dressed in white gloves and pressed blue suits.
Wilson Mora stated that his brother was a kind, patient and affectionate man who could teddy bear with anyone. His smile brightened up all rooms.
He stated, “I wanted you to know I was proud of your achievements.” “I love you bro, and I will never forget you.”
Mora was the fourth child of four in the Dominican Republic. When he was seven years old, he came to America. According to Keechant Sewell, the Police Commissioner, all that he wanted was to be a cop.
Sewell said, “He absolutely loved the job.” “He was kind and gentle and had a great laugh. He loved his family deeply and truly cared about his friends.”
Speakers at the funeral service stated that Mora was an organ donor for five others and gave his life even after his death.
According to local media, Mora’s funeral occurred hours after another Queens police officer was injured in an attack on his vehicle while he was driving to work.
Eric Adams (a former officer captain) announced last week a plan to reduce gun violence. This included increasing the presence of officers in violence-prone areas.
Adams said to officers at Mora’s funeral that New Yorkers understood the risks and sacrifices you made every day. We will give you all the tools and resources necessary to combat this violence. New Yorkers are up against the murderers and they will not win.
Just minutes after arriving at the scene on Jan. 21, Rivera shot Mora and Rivera in the narrow hallway. The victim’s older son also fired shots. He was then fatally injured by the bullets of the rookie officer.
