NFL Wants to Tackle Metaverse With New Job Post -Breaking

NFL Will Tackle the Metaverse Through a New Job Post

The NFL published a LinkedIn job posting last week for Senior Manager Content Partnership. Two bullets listed under the “responsibilities” section stand out:

  • Serve as the marketing leader with key partners in strategic growth verticals like gaming, NFTs, and so on.
  • Recognize opportunities in emerging tech sectors, including NFT, crypto projects, AR/VR strategy, and development

The NFL wants to increase its gaming offerings. This could open the door for possible metaverse-based partnership opportunities with The Sandbox and Decentraland or Enjin Network. That’s extremely likely since the job description specifically calls out augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) expertise for the new hire.

Additionally, the NFL mentioned NFT experience a few times throughout the entire job description – the league most definitely is looking to recreate the NFT windfall the NBA has had since launching its Top Shot project with Dapper Labs.

The NBA Top Shots NFTs generated $589 millions between October 2020 and May 2021. Those levels of passive revenue streams can’t be ignored, and the NFL has a treasure trove of potential NFT content within its decades of archival NFL Films.

These new revenues and expanding global reach of the NFL are two reasons why the NFL has reversed its previous policy, which prohibited teams from engaging with crypto-related projects. The NFL sent an email last August to 32 clubs that contained this section in The Athletic.

Except as stated in this policy, clubs are forbidden from selling or allowing advertisements within club controlled media for specific cryptocurrency, initial coin offerings, and other cryptocurrency sales.
It is interesting to watch how fast the NFL moves in this area now that it has established that the NFL is interested in the metaverse, NFTs and other alternate realities.
