U.S. willing to discuss troop and missile limits with Russia

MADRID (Reuters). Apparently, Washington will discuss a deal with Russia to not deploy ground-launched weapons or combat troops in Ukraine if Russia is open to the idea. This was according to classified documents obtained by El Pais from Spain. These were the written answers of NATO and Washington to Russian security threats.
El Pais has not said how it acquired the documents.
The U.S. said that it was willing to talk about conditions-based transparency measures, and reciprocal commitments from both Russia and America to not deploy offensive ground-launched ballistic missile systems or permanent forces in support of a combat mission on Ukraine’s territory.
According to reports, both the United States of America and NATO members are willing to talk about reciprocal arrangements to avoid any dangerous incidents on the seas or airs, and to assure Moscow there aren’t any Tomahawk missiles in Poland and Romania, according to the papers.
NATO and Kremlin both told Reuters that they wouldn’t comment.
Officially handed to Moscow by Washington Jan. 26, the documents reflect the positions of Washington and allies previously, in particular in regards to offering transparency in military matters.
Long-standing US policy has been that NATO’s European nuclear missile shield, located in Romania and planned for Poland, won’t be used to counter Russian rockets in the future, but will serve as a defense against Iran and threats from other parts of the Middle East.
In a written response, the United States stated that it would be transparent about the Polish and Romanian missile bases if Moscow made the same.
NATO’s document states that all 30 member alliances agree with the statement: “The reverse of Russia’s military buildup in Ukraine and surrounding areas will be crucial for substantial progress.”
More than 100,000 Russian troops have been reported to be stationed at Ukraine’s borders, and even in Belarus by the West. Russia denied Western allegations that it was planning to invade Ukraine.
