LONDON (Reuters), British Prime Minister Boris Johnson fought on Friday for his authority, after a top aide resigned following a false allegation that the Labour Party’s leader failed to prosecute a well-known child sex abuser.

Johnson was the 2019 Conservative Majority Winner. However, Johnson has consistently refused to resign after reports claimed that Johnson and his staff had attended Downing Street parties in COVID-19 lockdowns.

Johnson’s sometimes chaotic style of leadership has been questioned and they have become the biggest threat to Johnson since his election. The scandals are the latest in a long line of others.

Johnson acknowledged that Downing Street was his home, and also the nerve center of the British government needed fixing.

Munira, Munira’s head of policy, who has been working with Johnson for 14 years was forced to resign on Thursday following Johnson’s claims that Labour leader KeirStarmer did not prosecute Jimmy Savile while he was director of public prosecutions.

Rishi Sunak (Johnson’s finance minister) pointed out that Johnson would never have made such remarks. Starmer has dismissed Johnson’s comments as an absurd slur and conspiracy theory, which shows Johnson is not qualified to lead Britain.

Mirza was followed by three more resignations from ministers. This evidence suggested that Johnson was fixing Downing Street’s problems and taking charge, though Johnson still had a lot of anger within his party.

Huw Merriman (a Conservative lawmaker and chair of the Transport Select Committee), said that “I am deeply disturbed by what is going on.”

Merriman claimed that if the prime Minister didn’t shape up, he would have had to leave. Merriman also stated that many Conservative voters felt upset about the recent British state events.

According to the Conservative Home editor, Johnson’s policy group also resigned on Friday. Downing Street refused to comment immediately.

“CHANGE IS GOOD!”

Johnson spokesmen said that Mirza was leaving after his top three aides, the chief of staff and principal private secretary of Johnson, resigned. The resignations were made before Mirza leaves.

The spokesman for Johnson said, “No.” The spokesman added that Johnson had spoken to Downing Street earlier in the day to express gratitude to those who left and acknowledge that it was difficult to change.

He used the Lion King film as a reference, also stating that “change can be good.”

Johnson is being urged by some opposition parties, as well Johnson himself, to step down. But there are concerns that the West could be left weaker due to its potential military conflict in Ukraine.

Anger at government will only grow before the May local elections.

Leading competitors within the Conservative Party are Chancellor Of The Exchequer Sunak (41), and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss (46)

54 Conservative MPs from parliament have to write letters of non-confidence to the Chairman of the Party’s 1922 Committee in order for a leadership challenge.

YouGov recently conducted a snap poll on January 31 that showed 63% support Johnson’s resignation. But, an additional YouGov poll revealed only 31% supported Johnson’s resignation.

Greg Hands, a junior minister in the energy sector, told Sky that Downing Street was being resigned and that resignations had been accepted.

“This is the prime Minister taking control.”
