(Reuters) – Officials announced Friday that Pennsylvania would spend $25.3million in federal funds in order to construct a new Pittsburgh bridge. This will replace the one that was damaged a week earlier, just hours before a scheduled U.S. president Joe Biden visit.

According to Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania governor, construction crews will rush to repair the Fern Hollow Bridge that collapsed Jan. 28, injuring 10 persons. This demonstrates the urgency of Biden’s efforts to restore America’s crumbling infrastructure.

Wolf released a statement saying that Pennsylvania was grateful to the Biden Administration for their steadfast dedication in rebuilding the bridge and helping people move on from this horrible event.

Half-century-old, snow-covered bridge collapsed shortly before morning rush hour. Rescuers rappelled at least 150 feet (46 m) into ravine to rescue people using ropes.

This was an example of Biden’s commitment to rebuilding the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, including bridges, roads and highways.

According to a press release jointly issued by Pittsburgh City and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the federal funding that will finance the new bridge is made possible through the bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It will not affect any regionally-funded projects.
