REUTERS/Luis CortesMEXICO CITY (Reuters – Mexico’s Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier claimed Monday that after the Omicron wave caused by coronavirus, the country’s economic growth was expected to be 2.5%. It is a setback for President Andres Lopez.
Mexico’s economy shrank for the second quarter of the past three months in 2021. It was in technical recession.
After shrinking 8.5% during 2020, the overall economy grew 5.0% in full-year 2021. This was Mexico’s worst recession in 30 years.
Clouthier claimed that while the Finance Ministry forecasted growth at 4%, this was impacted by the Omicron tsunami.
Clouthier said that he believed that the station could grow between 2.5% and 2.6%.
Mexico’s president had earlier in the month projected a 5% growth rate for 2022. However, 11 analysts polled at Reuters predicted a growth rate of 1.9% by their last month survey.
