MOSCOW (Reuters). Russian President Vladimir Putin described Monday’s talks in Moscow with French President Emmanuel Macron as productive, substantive, business-like and suggested that Macron’s ideas might form a foundation for future joint actions.
The French president travelled to Moscow to meet with Russian counterparts amid tensions over Russia’s military buildup in Ukraine. Also, Washington is launching a Kremlin campaign to secure security guarantees from Moscow that include an end to NATO expansion.
Putin stated that many of Macron’s security ideas were real and they would discuss again after Macron has travelled to Kyiv, to meet with the leadership.
He stated that “a lot of his ideas, propositions, which are probably too early for us to talk about”, he added.
“We agreed to call each other after our trip to the Ukrainian capital, and we will exchange views on that matter,” he stated.
Russia is building up over 100,000 troops close to Ukraine. There are fears Moscow might be plotting an invasion. Russia denies these concerns.
