U.S. House Democrats seek stopgap funding through March 11 -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Monday’s legislation was introduced by Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives to temporarily finance federal programs until March 11, and prevent agency shut downs starting on February 18, when funds run out.

This would allow Democratic and Republican negotiators to have more time for funding negotiations in the remaining fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. Rosa DeLauro, Chair of House Appropriations Committee said in a statement.

The Democratic-controlled House was expected to vote sometime this week on the new temporary funding bill. This would make it the third such legislation since Oct. 1, last year’s fiscal.

The Senate must then approve the measure, and it will be sent to Democratic President Joe Biden so that he can sign into law the legislation before midnight on February 18.

Democrats and Republicans disagree for months on spending priorities. The massive appropriations bill has a cost tag of approximately $1.5 trillion.
