LONDON (Reuters), a Danish pension fund AkademikerPension stated Monday that it is selling its shares in Wizz Air budget airline Wizz. This was due to alleged human rights violations against its employees.

Wizz was one of the 14 investors who called Wizz in December for employees to join and form trade unions. Their research indicated that it discouraged this practice, which was in violation of employee rights.

AkademikerPension stated Monday that it met with management and found no indications the airline’s policies would change. So it began to sell its $3 million holding. Wizz Air is valued at $6 billion.

Wizz Air is very serious about engagement with employees and believes that all of the processes and structures that were put into place to facilitate open and transparent engagement, such as our People Council that provides an opportunity for employees to talk about important topics, are in good shape,” stated the airline.

The company also mentioned plans to recruit more than 1000 staff over the next months. It stated that it has restored cabin crew’s pay to pre-pandemic levels, as the industry recovers after the pandemic.
