Angrily Canadian truckers blocked the main crossing into the United States, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau waited to confront legislators in the latter part of the day to talk about the growing crisis.

On Jan. 28, drivers demanding the end of federal Covid-19 vaccination mandates for trans-border traffic arrived in Ottawa and slowly took over the central part.

Slowly, police began to regain control. Protesters demanding Trudeau’s resignation shifted their attention to the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor.

Late Monday night, trucks blocked traffic and the Canadian government site showed that Tuesday morning’s bridge had been closed in both directions.

Canada exports 75% to the United States, and trucks are a key part of that. It handles about 8,000 rigs daily, underlining its economic importance.

On Monday, Tom Marazzo, Ottawa protest spokesperson said that he was being sent to Ottawa “to send a message” and that the message wasn’t reaching its intended audience.

Trudeau is expected to be back in the House of Commons Tuesday afternoon to meet opposition legislators. They are asking him to do more for what one of his aides calls a “national humiliation.”

However, his government believes that police should have the ability to restore order.

“Individuals want to stop our economy, democracy and everyday lives of our citizens,” Trudeau said. “It has to end,” Trudeau stated Monday evening during an emergency discussion in the House of Commons. “Those wearing masks and shouting at each other do not represent the majority of Canadians.

Jim Watson of Ottawa, who is facing growing anger from residents, has asked for a mediator. Ministers disagree.

Opposition groups lack a unified leader and seem to be unaware of the Canadian Constitution.

Some people believe they can take Trudeau out by just asking Governor General Mary Simon. This representative is Queen Elizabeth. She has no power to do so.

Marazzo stated that he would be willing to form a coalition of opposition parties. He would have to first become a legislator to make this possible.
