Husband of U.S. VP Harris, students evacuate Black history event after bomb threat -Breaking
(Reuters). During Tuesday’s bomb threat at a Washington school, students and staff evacuated following a bomb threat, U.S. Secret Service Agents rushed Douglas Emhoff, husband to Vice President Kamala Harris to safety.
According to their website, Emhoff went to Dunbar High School. It was the first school for Black Americans.
Last week, bomb threats were sent to at least 12 historically Black universities and colleges (HBCUs) across the country. This forced them to cancel classes and raised fears in Black communities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the threat and has not found any explosives at the sites.
According to police, preliminary evidence indicated that Tuesday’s bomb threat wasn’t related to the threats last week nor targeted Emhoff. It said that it was not possible to rule out a link with the threats last week.
The police stated that the bomb threat came from a caller, and authorities were looking into it. By late afternoon, the area had been declared safe.
Emhoff’s staff previously told reporters that Emhoff had reported to the U.S. Secret Service about the threat. The Secret Service protects U.S. leaders and their families. His spokesperson stated that Emhoff was secure.
“We received a threat at the facility, so we decided to evacuate everyone as soon as possible. It seems that everyone is safe. A spokesperson from the District of Columbia Public Schools said that “The building was clear.”
