The NFL is Giving Free NFTs to Super Bowl Attendees -Breaking

Super Bowl Attendees Get Free NFTs from The NFL

Last Wednesday, the U.S.-based National Football League (NFL) announced that for the first time in the league’s history, it would give fans attending in person the upcoming Super Bowl in Los Angeles, a free, virtual commemorative ticket in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to celebrate the event.

Every Super Bowl LVI fan will be given a customized, complimentary NFT with their section, row and seat. This digital souvenir is a keepsake of their Super Bowl experience.

We first offered virtual commemorative tickets NFTs during the regular season. We witnessed great success with this one-of-a-kind fan experience, which provided the momentum to continue this program throughout the postseason and ultimately at Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles,” said Bobby Gallo, SVP, Club Business Development, NFL in the league’s official statement. The collection of ticket stubs is something that our fans enjoy doing, especially during the biggest games. We offer customized Super Bowl NFTs to help enhance the gameday experience as well as allowing us to evaluate NFT opportunities for event participation and future ticketing.
As it seeks to block the growth of blockchain, the NFL appears to have a multifaceted approach. The league published a LinkedIn job posting last month for the Senior Manager Content Partnership. Two bullets listed under the “responsibilities” section stood out in particular:

  • Assist strategic partners with marketing in growth areas (Gaming and NFTs)
  • Recognize opportunities in emerging tech sectors, including NFT, crypto projects, AR/VR strategy, and development

The NFL wants to offer more gaming options than just ticket NFTs. This could open the door for possible metaverse-based partnership opportunities with The Sandbox and Decentraland or Enjin Network. That’s extremely likely since the job description specifically calls out augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) expertise for the new hire.

In the meantime, the NFL also announced that it’s releasing a series of seven historic commemorative NFTs for purchase leading up to this weekend’s Super Bowl game, which are available to anyone. Every day, a new NFT will be released. The first NFT was on Sunday. On February 13, a NFT with current Super Bowl LVI ticket artwork will be available.

NFT prep representatives were taken by the NFL because of the Super Bowl’s attention-grabbing nature. A beta NFL test allowed fans to get complimentary NFTs in lieu of regular tickets. The NFL claims that more than 250 000 NFTs were given to NFL fans. A limited amount of NFTs could be purchased. The NFL will be leveraging its marketing power to promote crypto over the coming weeks and months.
