WASHINGTON (Reuters), -General Motors Co., and Chrysler-parent Stellantis stated on Thursday they had to cancel or cut back shifts due to parts shortages arising from Canadian trucking protests.

Stellantis plant said all North American plants of Stellantis are operating as of Thursday morning. “But a lot of U.S.- and Canadian plants reduced second shifts Wednesday evening due to part shortages in the wake of the Detroit/Windsor Bridge closing.”

GM stated that two shifts were cancelled at a Michigan facility where it makes sport utility cars after Canadian trucking protests.

American’s largest automaker stated that it cancelled Wednesday’s shift at Lansing Delta Township and Thursday’s shifts. Ford Motor (NYSE 🙂 Co and Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:) Corp stated Wednesday that they were forced to stop some operations due to supply chain disruptions resulting from protests at the Ambassador Bridge linking Detroit and Windsor in Ontario.

Stellantis claimed that “the Ambassador Bridge’s situation combined with the already fragile supply chains will create further hardships for those and industries still trying to recover from COVID-19.” We are hopeful that we can find a quick resolution so our plants can resume normal operations and our employees can get back to work.

Wednesday’s White House statement stated that it is in contact with Canada, automakers and customs officials to avoid any disruptions to the auto industry.
