WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Sri Lanka is not seeking financial aid from the International Monetary Fund. However, the Fund stands ready to talk with the country about options to reduce its debt, Gerry Rice, an IMF spokesperson, said Thursday.
Rice said at a weekly news briefing IMF Managing director Kristalina Georgiaeva was looking to progress next week’s G20 finance leadership’s meeting in Indonesia. This is for IMF proposals that would strengthen the G20’s debt restructuring framework. They include a temporary debt service stoppage for countries seeking debt restructuring, and specific timelines to complete debt restructurings.
