LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Jerry Harris, who starred on the American reality television show Cheer, pleaded guilty to two child pornography-related charges and one for sexual assault according to a court filing.

Harris was initially arrested on September 20, 2020. He pleaded guilty to seven charges, but was later released on Thursday under a plea deal.

It states that, after the sentence of two charges, prosecutors will request for all other charges to be dropped. This is what federal Judge Manish S. Shah said at a hearing.

Harris confessed to repeatedly asking a minor to take explicit pictures and videos of him in exchange for cash. The document also said that Harris traveled from Texas, Florida to have sex with a fifteen-year-old.

The plea agreement stated that Harris had sexually assaulted Minor 5.

Harris, 22 years old, was a rising star in “Cheer,” a TV reality series about a cheerleading group from Navarro College who aims to win a national title.

Harris could face a maximum sentence of 50 years for each of the two charges.

In a statement, his lawyers stated that Jerry’s…story can only be understood through the prism of extreme poverty, sexual abuse and neglect in his childhood.

Jerry, with his guilty plea, will spend his entire life trying to make amends for the things he did.”
