WASHINGTON (Reuters] – As it prepares for a trial that will decide if Alphabet’s (NASDAQ.) search business violates antitrust law, the Justice Department plans to disqualify some top Apple executives.

According to the Justice Department’s complaint, Google was accused of spending billions each year on exclusionary deals with Apple, Samsung (KS) and others in order that Google’s search engine will be the default one for their devices.

Steven Sunshine from Apple spoke at a hearing in preparation for trial.

Sunshine indicated, too that he was not sure what Apple wanted from the Justice Department.

In October 2020 the U.S. Justice Department sued Google, accusing it of using its market strength to hurt rivals. The trial was scheduled for September 12, 2023.

About two years ago the U.S. Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission launched various investigations into Big Tech platforms. Some of these investigations have led to lawsuits.
