OTTAWA, (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans Monday to call for rarely-used emergency measures in an effort to quell ongoing protests which have closed border crossings and blocked capital for over two weeks. Sources said that this was a plan to address the problem.

The prime minister’s office also stated that Trudeau will speak with reporters at 4:30 pm. ET (2130 GMT), without providing any explanation.

Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, one source claimed that emergency powers were used to support local and provincial police forces with federal police support, but not the military.
