Scientists have confirmed that the megadrought in America West has caused the worst drought in more than 1,200 years. They also believe human-caused climate changes are responsible for the current situation.

They conducted extensive research. published in the journal Nature Climate Change, scientists analyzed droughts in southwestern North America dating back to the year 800 and found that conditions during this century are more severe than the megadrought in the late 1500s.

Research also indicated that conditions could persist through the 2022 year. A megadrought is defined as a prolonged and severe drought spanning two decades or longer, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

A. said that rather than causing the dry years of 2017 and 2019, 2000s droughts have increased in force in 2020-2021. It is now clear that they are as strong as ever. Park Williams is a UCLA climate scientist.

Williams who conducted the analysis using tree rings data said that “there is no evidence” that 2000s drought has eased.

Researchers said that the U.S. West would experience drought regardless of climate change. However, 42% of the severity of the drought can be attributed directly to warmer temperatures caused by human-related factors, such as greenhouse gas emissions, which trap heat in the atmosphere.

Lake Powell and Lake Mead are the biggest reservoirs in America, with water levels that have never been recorded. The worst wildfire season in American history, 2020, blazed more than 10 million acres of land in the U.S.

The Federal government’s last year ordered the first-ever water cutsColorado River Basin: This will affect water supplies and electricity for more than 40,000,000 people in the West.

California’s Governor Gavin Newsom asked residents last year to curb household water consumption by 15% amid record-breaking temperatures. California may soon face water shortages, according to officials. third consecutive dryThis is due to an absence of significant snowfall this year.
