BEIJING, (Reuters) – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision on Kamila Valieva (a teenage Russian figure skater) will decide whether or not she is allowed to compete at the Beijing Games women’s singles.

CAS will rule on appeals by IOC, WADA and ISU against Russian Anti-Doping Agency. The provisional ban placed on Valieva last year after her testing positive for banned angina drugs was lifted.

CAS closed its hearing with the 15-year old early Monday morning and will announce its decision around 2 p.m. (0600 GMT) when Valieva is scheduled to have a practice session.

The singles for women will be held on Tuesday.

Mark Adams, IOC spokesperson stated that “I cannot tell you the absolute gospel truth” but that he understood the situation and would inform you if the winner will contest tomorrow.

“The Court or Arbitration for Sport is the decision of the IOC. We can either like it or not.

“We will comply with the decision completely because that is our job, and we will respect it to the letter.”

The sample of Valieva was taken on December 25th at the Russian National Championships, but it was not made public until February 8, one day after Valieva had led the Russian Olympic Committee to victory in team events.

RUSADA lifted Valieva’s temporary suspension in February 2009.

Due to anti-doping sanctions, Russian athletes compete in Beijing as neutrals.

Unfortunately, the medal ceremony for team events has been postponed. USA finished second with Japan and Canada taking fourth.

Adams stated that it is unlikely the medals will be given during these Games.

He said that all the issues would need to be addressed further during the Games. The decision on the medals will not solve this problem. This will likely not be resolved during the Games.
