On Tuesday, a federal jury found that The New York Times did not insult Sarah Palin by publishing a 2017 editorial in which it linked the political action committee of Republican vice-president nominee to the killing of a member.

One day later, the judge in this case delivered the verdict to the jury. said he would dismiss Palin’s lawsuit against the Times.

In making Monday’s decision, Judge Jed Rakoff said that he would allow the jury to proceed with deliberations on the case until they reach a verdict.

Rakoff stated that he believed Palin would appeal his dismissal and said that an appeals court “would be greatly benefitted from knowing the verdict of the jury.”

Rakoff’s decision was based upon his conclusion that Palin’s reputation hadn’t been damaged by this editorial.

Danielle Rhoades Ha was the Times’ spokeswoman and stated in Tuesday’s emailed statement that she welcomed today’s verdict.

According to the spokesperson, “It’s a reminder of an American fundamental law: Public figures shouldn’t be allowed use libel actions to punish and intimidate news organisations that make or acknowledge unintentional errors.”

“It was gratifying to see that the judge and jury understood the legal protections of the news media, and our essential role in American society. The jurors are also to be commended for their thoughtful deliberations on a complex area of law.
