DoorDash was one the largest beneficiaries of stay at home trends in the coronavirus epidemic. Many people relied on delivery services to get food, rather than eating out, to prevent spreading Covid-19. To capitalize on this increased demand, the company expanded beyond food delivery to deliver groceries, flowers and pet supplies.
The quarter saw consumers continue to spend more money on their orders. The fourth quarter gross order value increased 36% year over year to $11.2 million, exceeding analysts’ projections of $10.6 billion. The volume of 369 million orders was higher than analysts expected, at 361,000,000.
The company expects the marketplace gross order value of $48 billion-$50 billion for the entire year. That is similar to consensus estimates of $49.4billion, as reflected in FactSet’s analysts.
