Meta CEO Zuckerberg promotes Nick Clegg to lead on policy issues -Breaking

(Reuters) – Meta Platforms Inc CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a Wednesday Facebook post (NASDAQ:) that he promoted Nick Clegg, policy chief, to a greater role in leading on all matters policy. This signaled less Zuckerberg involvement in this area.
Zuckerberg wrote: “We need to have a leader at the top of me (for our products), and Sheryl [for our business] who can represent us on all our policy issues worldwide,” referring specifically to Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer.
Clegg was the British deputy prime minister between 2010 and 2015. He joined Facebook to lead its global policy organisation in 2018. His leadership on content issues such as elections and Facebook’s policy, has included leading the creation of an independent oversight board for content.
Zuckerberg stated in the blog that Nick will be leading our company’s policy affairs. This includes how our company interacts with governments when they are considering adopting new regulations and policies, and how we present our case publicly for products and work.
According to the CEO, the changes would enable him to concentrate more on his company’s development of new products and Sandberg on its success.
Clegg is now “president of global affairs”, reporting to Sandberg and Zuckerberg. This comes before the November U.S. midterm elections.
Clegg also will have to deal with regulatory issues, as the company works on creating the metaverse, an futuristic vision of virtual worlds.
Sandberg shared the following in a post: “The next few decades will be a critical time for our business and our industry as New Rules for the Internet are Written All Over the World and As We Set Out on Our Journey to Help Build the Metaverse.”
