Republican megadonors plan to raise as much as $3 million for a legal challenge against New York’s congressional map following the recent redistricting.

A two page memoCNBC first reviewed the document, which was sent to financial institutions by Ed Cox, former New York State Republican Chair, and Rep. John Faso (R-N.Y.), encouraging them to raise the huge sum. Nearly two weeks ago, it was filed with the Steuben County state Supreme Court.

Misha Tseytlin will be participating in a live meeting for those who want to “learn more about this effort” and help defeat Democrats’ unconstitutional efforts in gerrymandering New York Congressional Districts, according to an invitation reviewed by CNBC.

This effort is made possible by the approval of new districts lines in the state legislature, which could provide Democrats with a boost to fight for control over the Congress for the next ten years.

The memo itself encourages financiers to give to either of two separate redistricting-focused groups, the National Republican Redistricting Trust and the Fair Lines America Foundation, which could also assist in the legal challenge.

These two dark money groups do not disclose the identities of their donors. Fair Lines America Foundation was previously funded by both the Donors Trust and Bradley Foundation. In the fundraising memo, it is stated that donors can give anonymously to these groups if they are interested.

According to the fundraising pitch, litigation challenging the map’s validity in federal and state courts can cost anywhere from one and a quarter million to three millions dollars.

Cox claimed that the opponents of district lines raise what he refers to as “private money” to pay for the legal fight.

“Democrats in Albany used taxpayer money to break New York’s Constitution using an extreme partisan-gerrymander to consolidate their power for next decade.”  Cox sent an email to CNBC this Wednesday stating that they are seeking private funding to help the state Constitution.

Tseytlin, Faso, and Tseytlin declined to comment.

New York’s governor has accelerated the fundraising efforts. Kathy Hochul has signed off to a new congressional grid that gives Democrats a huge advantage in future elections. The state legislature had approved the map’s redrawing, giving Democrats an advantage in 22 districts and 26 in the coming elections. Associated Press.

New York now has eight Republicans in its 27-seat legislature.

Republican-led lawsuitThe Court “should invalidate the unconstitutional congressional maps” and has repeatedly suggested that it’s a form of Gerrymandering. It involves the drawing of district boundaries in favor of one party. This has been an ongoing grievance since both GOP-led states and Democratic-led ones redrawed their maps after 2020 Census.

This memo, two pages long, illustrates how extensive Republican financial maneuvering was behind legal maneuvering. It could have enormous implications for political fortunes of both the Republican and Democratic parties.

The document details how new districts could impact the GOP and how they can be funded before pitching for funding.

“The New York State legislature, led by Democrats, will most likely reduce New York’s GOP Congressional delegation of eight to four,” the document states. The document states that New York Democrats could have made a substantial improvement in Speaker Pelosi’s desire to keep her majority in Congress if they succeed.

Although it is not clear who will contribute, Cox, Faso, and other groups listed in the fundraising request have connections to wealthy financiers.

Cox was a key figure in helping former President Donald Trump to raise funds for his 2020 White House run. Despite Trump losing the election in New York and the state to President Joe Biden’s victory, Trump raised more than $20 million from Empire State donors, according data to the Center for Responsive Politics. Trump’s campaign raised $700,000,000 during the 2020 election cycle.

Faso was unsuccessful in his bid to reelect Antonio Delgado. However, he raised $3 million for the congressional campaign. Faso was able to count on a host of corporate and business leaders contributing funds through both his political committee and the leadership committee.

According to records, Faso had several previous major donors, including Dan Loeb (CEO of Third Point Investments), Ronald Lauder, a businessman, and the members of the rich Tisch family. Corporate PACs that backed Faso include those of MetLife, AT&T, and Citigroup, according to CRP data.

It is an independent entity which does not reveal its donors. This group is described as one that “focuses exclusively on the legal and data requirements of redistricting” and coordinates a national redistricting strategy together with Republican Party’s National and State Committees, and other conservative groups around the country.

The organization was formed to counter an identical one helmed in part by former President Barack Obama’s allies, including former Attorney General Eric Holder.

The NRRT last year announced that Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State and New Jersey Governor, would co-chair the group. Chris Christie (both Republicans) will co-chair the group. Karl Rove, a long-standing Republican strategist and political advisor is its senior advisor.

Adam Kincaid was the president and the executive director at the NRRT.

He said that Governor Christie and Secretary Pompeo would be “tremendous assets” as they aimed to raise resources to combat the attempts of the left to sue to the blue. This was in reference to Democratic attempts to get an edge on the legislative map.

Fair Lines America Foundation, a non-profit organization 501(c), is not required to publicly reveal its donors.

Fair Lines America Foundation aims to educate the public about fair and legal redistricting by providing comprehensive data collection, processing and deployment, dissemination of pertinent news information, strategic investments in academic and litigation research, as well as educational opportunities.

The group doesn’t release the names of its donors but conservative charities have supported it regularly, according to disclosure reports. According to the disclosure report, Fair Lines America Foundation received $100,000 from The Bradley Foundation. This foundation is located in Milwaukee.

On the application, the donation was designated as “to support start-up activity.” According to the IRS, redistricting groups raised $1 million. itsThe most recent public disclosure report.

The Donors Trust is a 501(c),(3) nonprofit that conservative megadonors use regularly to fund their targeted groups. donated just over $1.4 millionAccording to Fair Lines America Foundation’s group’s form 990, in 2020 to Fair Lines America Foundation. New York’s primaries will be held in late June.
