British police stated Wednesday that they were investigating allegations in media reports that honours were given to a Saudi citizen in exchange for donations to Prince Charles’s charity.

The Sunday Times published a September report that an award had been given to a Saudi-based businessman who contributed thousands of pounds with assistance from the Prince’s aides.

Michael Fawcett (right-hand man for Prince Charles over decades) resigned in November from his position as director of The Prince’s Foundation, the royal’s charitable foundation.

London’s Metropolitan Police stated in a statement that “The Special Enquiry Team” had conducted an assessment and reached out to people believed to have the information.

Charles’ spokesperson said that Charles did not know of any alleged British citizenship or honors offered to him in exchange for a donation to Charles’ charities.

According to police, officers had spoken with The Prince’s Foundation regarding the results of an independent investigation into fundraising methods and received a variety of documents from the foundation.

It added that there have not been any arrests and no interviews under caution.
