(Reuters) –The New Jersey Police arrested the family of a Black teenage who got into a brawl with a white teenager in a mall. They have retained Benjamin Crump as their attorney.

Crump stated in writing that “This is yet another instance of the type of racial bias we must eradicate from our system of policecing.”

The video of the teens fighting at Bridgewater Commons Mall over the weekend went viral and was shared on social media. Two police officers also arrived to assist. The one officer placed the black teen on the couch, while the other put him to the ground.

Crump stated that Z’Kye Husain was eighth-grader and the officer handcuffed him as officers thought his skin colour made him more dangerous than the white teenager involved in the fight.

“We have requested that the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office assist us in this matter and are requesting patience as we strictly adhere to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Internal Affairs Directive (regarding such cases),” the Bridgewater Township Police Department said.

Husain fought with a white teenage boy, but he was not arrested at the scene. He has not been identified by police.

“I’m deeply disturbed by what appears to be racially disparate treatment in this video,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said on Twitter (NYSE:) on Wednesday.

Calls for national reforms have been made after the police’s use of force against Black young men.

Floyd (46 years old) died under Derek Chauvin’s knee in May 2020 as he was arrested for passing a fake bill. This case triggered a series of protests across major U.S. cities.

Chauvin was found guilty of murder and sentenced for 22-1/2 years imprisonment.
