Mark Zuckerberg makes Nick Clegg one of Meta’s most powerful execs

Nick Clegg was once Britain’s second-most powerful man. He is now among the most powerful men in the world. MetaThe company that was formerly called Facebook is now known as.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, elevated Clegg to the position of president of international affairs. This comes amid a torrent of global regulations. Clegg served previously as vice president of international affairs.

Cambridge University graduate who was appointed head of communications and policy at Facebook in 2018, replaced the former leader of Britain’s centre-right Liberal Democrats party.

His new role will see him overseeing decisions that have an impact on the many billions of people who worldwide use Facebook, Instagram Messenger and WhatsApp.

Zuckerberg indicated that the 55 year-old Zuckerberg wants to be a leader, “at the level of” Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of the company. Sheryl Sandberg is long been considered second in command.

Zuckerberg stated on his Facebook Page that Nick will be leading the company in all matters policy, which includes how we interact and communicate with governments when they adopt new regulations and policies, and how we present our case publicly for products and work.

Zuckerberg stated that Clegg would now be reporting directly to him, along with Sandberg who he currently reports to. Clegg said that the appointment would allow him and Sandberg to stop making policy decisions and instead focus on creating new products or the business.

Zuckerberg declared that Meta’s work is of great importance to many people in the world. We are at the heart of many debates regarding technology and society.

Clegg is being appointed as Meta attempts pivot to build the metaverse. It’s a virtual world in which people can work, live and interact digitally through avatars.

While the metaverse may still be in its early stages, it is likely that there will be complex policies associated with its future development. Multiple reports have been made of harassment occurring on different metaverse platforms.

Increased scrutiny

After scandals related to content moderation and privacy as well as election meddling, Meta is becoming increasingly dislikable among politicians all over the globe.

Clegg explained that future and existing products would continue to attract intense society interest.

“I look forward to taking part in the debate for us and making sure that the policies we choose reflect our responsibilities as well as support the creation of new innovative products over the years.”

Clegg served in the U.K. as deputy prime Minister during the coalition government between 2010 and 2015. Clegg partnered with the Conservative Party to form his party, which was widely criticized by many Lib Dem supporters. His party became the government and helped him to lead it.

He was promoted amid an overall shakeup of Meta. Meta’s chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer and chief revenue officer David Fischer have both been fired in the last year. Fidji SIMO, who is the Facebook app’s head, was also promoted.

Clegg’s fate is still unknown, but it’s possible that he will get a place on Meta’s board. If he does, he’ll need to disclose his stock options and salary. Sandberg received a $24.7 million package in 2020.
