REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/File PhotoBRUSSELS (Reuters), A top European Union official claimed on Friday that a U.S./Iranian deal to revive Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement is close, but the success of such a deal depends on how political will be shown by those involved.
The official from the EU stated that he expected an agreement within the next week and the following two weeks. The official stated that “I believe we now have on the table text which are very, very close” to the final agreement.
Reuters published details on February 17th about a potential deal negotiated between envoys representing Iran, Russia and China as well as Britain, France (France), Germany, the European Union, and the United States.
“Most issues are settled. However, this is a general rule in negotiations. Nothing is finalized until everyone is satisfied. We still have…some questions.
According to the official, a deal was needed because Iran’s highly sensitive program for uranium enrichment was rapidly moving forward. Iran has never claimed that it seeks nuclear weapons.
Official: “On the Ground they are advancing very heavily at a speed which is not compatible with long-term survival of JCPOA.” The reference was to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as it is officially titled.
